Malegaon:
Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar
accused home minister Ravi Naik of using the Margao bomb blast case
to settle personal scores and demanded that the case be handed over
to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), reports Times of
India.
According to the leading Indian
English daily, Manohar Parrikar said that Naik's recent statement in
a local daily that the scooter used in the blast belonged to Nishad
Bakhale, nephew of transport minister Sudin Dhavalikar, was
contradictory to the statements made by the police.
"The state's home minister has already made up his mind about who
the culprit should be, and the police will blindly follow these
suggestions to appease him. The interest of Goa is not being
considered here and it is frightening, as more people are involved
and the real culprits have every chance of going scot free,"
Parrikar said at a press conference on Tuesday evening.
"This is an intra-cabinet battle. The home minister is trying to
score a goal against the transport minister. It's a snake versus
mongoose battle and Dhavalikar is at the receiving end," the
opposition leader said.
Parrikar said that he was neither shielding Dhavalikar nor Bakhale.
"The DIG has said that the scooter was sold by Bakhale to Yogesh
Naik's brother. As per the RTO records, the scooter was sold on
March 27, 2007. However, the home minister has been giving
statements to the media that the scooter belongs to Dhavalikar's
nephew," he said, adding, "This shows that there is no seriousness
in the investigations, which should be a cause of concern for Goans.
The case must be transferred to the CBI," the opposition leader
said.
Parrikar further alleged that the Goa police neither had the
expertise nor the equipment to investigate material that is used to
make bombs.
"The forensic lab at Verna has been inaugurated, but is not
functioning. It does not even have equipment to check a viscera.
Merely saying that the gelatin sticks in the Margao bomb blast came
from Nagpur is not enough. Even the gelatin sticks that are used for
fishing here are brought from Nagpur," he said.
When asked if he supported the proposed ban on the Sanatan Sanstha,
Parrikar replied: "I don't care. If they are guilty, they should
be."
Meanwhile, amid the reports that are
coming in the media about the involvement of its activist in the Goa
blast, Sanatan Sanstha once again claimed that they do not have
anything to do with the blast that triggered off on Friday.
We don't believe in violence and we
are fully cooperating with the officials who are investigating the
incident, the Sanatan Sanstha office bearers have reportedly told in
a press conference.
