Indore: The BJP February 18 clarified that it would support erection of a mosque at an appropriate place if the Muslim community facilitated the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Clarifying the party's stand after the new BJP President Nitin Gadkari raised the issue in his address at the commencement of two-day party National Council, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said if there was response to the BJP President's appeal to the Muslim community, the party would, after due consultations with stake holders concerned, support the construction of a Masjid at an appropriate place.
Deviating from his written text, Gadkari had stated that a judicial solution to the dispute was not the best option and appealed to the members of the Muslim community of the country to clear the legal hurdles for enabling the construction of the Ram temple.
Rudy also denied reports appearing in the local media that the Leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley respectively, were living outside the 90 Kushabhau Thakre Parisar, specially created for holding the National Council meeting.
Ms Swaraj or Jaitley have not stepped out of the campus even once, he said.
However, Former BJP President Rajnath Singh was staying out of the campus for health reasons and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi had left the campus to attend to her mother during her surgery.
"We request you not to make exceptions to the rule", Rudy said.
