Dubai Tower, the tallest building in the World inaugurated

Monday, January 04, 2010 10:45:04 PM, Agencies

Dubai: United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the world’s tallest building Burj Dubai here Monday, WAM news agency reported.

Sheikh Mohammed unveiled the commemorative plaque at the site announcing the official opening of the world’s tallest building.

The gleaming glass and steel tower of more than 160 floors extends more than 800 metres into the sky, making it some 300 metres taller than Taipei 101, currently listed as the world’s tallest inhabited structure.

Designed by British architect Adrian Smith, the complex includes 1,000 residences, 160 luxury hotel rooms, and 37 office floors with corporate suites.

The opening coincided with the fourth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to power in the emirate of Dubai.

Clinton greets UAE on opening of Burj Dubai

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Monday sent a special message of felicitation to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the occasion of unveiling of Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building.

“Your efforts to create international cooperation in our global economy are an important endeavor. I applaud your commitment to sustainable development,” Clinton said.

On Tuesday, more than 50 leading architects, architectural critics and journalists from 15 countries will participate in a programme to mark the launch of Burj Dubai.

Tallest man made structure on earth

The tallest man made structure on earth, Burj Tower has set several new records and to avoid any kind of adverse consequences, the authorities have adopted tight security measures to protect it.

The height of the tower is the most enticing fact about it and the authorities have still kept it a secret.

Earlier, it has been reported that the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum will reveal the height of the tower during the opening ceremony. Though the actual height of the tower has not yet been revealed, it is expected that it would cross the height of 2,625 feet, which is so far the tallest tower of the world. It would not be surprising if the height of the tower exceeds 2,700 feet.

The Burj Tower in Dubai, which is a dream come true for the people of the country has faced multiple criticisms during its construction. Though the inauguration of the tower had been postponed twice, the tower finally unveiled today.

As stated in the reports, the spiral shaped tower has the maximum number of stories and the observation deck of the tower on the 124th floor has set a record.

No other skyscraper in the world has such a brilliant observation deck. This tower passes through several climatic zones and the topmost floor of the tower records a temperature 10 degree Celsius lower than the ground floor, an amazing fact.
