Hyderabad: Tension gripped the Osmania University campus when a B Tech second year student allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his hostel room of the University in support of separate Telangana state.

Blaming the politicians for the delay in creation of Telangana state by the Centre, 22-year-old M Saikumar, in a suicide note purportedly written by him, wanted his body to be taken in a procession to the Telangana Martyrs' memorial at the Gunpark in front of the State Assembly before performing the last rites, police said.

The student attended the first period today and after that he left the classroom for his hostel room.

Fellow students, who saw him battling for life, removed the ropes and took him to the OU Police Station in a two-wheeler.

Later, he was taken in an '108' ambulance to the Gandhi Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased student hailed from Kodada in Nalgonda district.

Tense situation prevailed at the hospital as students gathered in large numbers and raised slogans in support of Telangana.
