Monday July 22, 2013 6:45 PM, IANS

The Punjab government Monday announced one percent reservation for all cancer and AIDS victims for admission to technical educational institutions across the state.

This decision would be implemented from the current academic session, Technical Education and Industries Minister Anil Joshi said here.

Joshi said the step was aimed at giving equal opportunity to victims of these diseases. He said such students would be able to get reservation at the time of admission to all engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes).

He said private technical institutions have also been urged to come forward to help victims of AIDS and cancer. He said any discrimination with these students in any institution would not be tolerated.
