Second on the list is Russian-born Jewish businessman Len Blavatnik, whose rise in wealth from £3.4 billion last year to £11 billion this year makes him the highest riser in wealth terms.

In fact, three of the top five on the list are Russian and two of them are Jews - Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea football club owner, is in fifth place with a £9.3bn fortune.

The other two, in places three and four, are of Indian origin – industrialists Sri and Gopi Hinduja, with £10.6 billion, and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal with £10 billion.

Israeli shipping tycoon Idan Ofer, who moved from Israel to London last year, is ranked 25th, with a fortune of £3.4 billion.

The only U.K.-born person in the Top 10 is the Duke of Westminster, who is ranked eighth with £7.8 billion.

Also in the Top 10 are Baghdad-born Jewish brothers David and Simon Reuben, who made their £8,2 billion in metals trading and property.

In 20th place is Jewish businessman Joe Lewis, who was born in the East End of London and left school at 15 to work as a waiter in his father's catering business. Lewis made his £3.2 billion in foreign exchange trading and investment.

With 104 billionaires based in the U.K., the list breaks the century mark for the first time. In 2013, there were only 78 billionaires.

According to the Sunday Times, the U.K. has more billionaires per capita than anywhere else in the world, with most of them residing in London, which has more billionaires than any other city.
