Meerut: Days after Chief Minister Adityanath instructed police not to harass "innocent" couples, members of his own organisation Hindu Yuva Vahini on Wednesday barged into a house and roughed up a Muslim boy and a girl belonging to another faith after they were found together.
The Hindu Yuva Vahini members who were seen barging into the house and dragging the couple out in the video circulating in the media alleged that the boy was trying to convert the girl.
Police said the Hindu Yuva Vahini members barged into the house after local residents informed them that the boy had called the girl to his friend's rented accommodation.
They told police that the two were allegedly found in an objectionable position, according to PTI.
While the girl was released after warning, the boy, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, was booked on charges of obscenity, they said.
Meanwhile the Hindu Yuva Vahini members are justifying the assualt on the couple alleging that the Muslim boy has "confessed" about his intent to convert the religion of the girl.
"We were informed that such incidents are taking place in this locality. People who do not belong from here have bought or rented out LIG flats here to carry out such activities", a member of the organisation founded by Yogi Adityanath is quoted as saying.
"The boy has confessed that he visited the house to convert the woman's religion from Hinduism and has been bringing her here in the past as well", he added.
Hindu Yuva Vahini was founded by Chief Minister Adityanath. Prior to his becoming chief minister, the group was primarily limited to the region in the Eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. This is probably the first time they have taken action in Western parts of the state.
