Bihar Students Promoted

Patna: Nitish Kumar government in Bihar Wednesday decided to promote all students of Class 1 to 9 and Class 11 to next classes without conducting their exams.

The decision has been taken in the wake of nationwide lockdown clamped to contain the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

"Since the schools cannot open, in the light of the present situation we have taken this decision of promoting students," Bihar Education Minister Krishna Nandan Verma said while speaking to ANI.

The schools and junior colleges in Bihar normally conduct the exams of students of classes 1 to 9 and class 11 after the board exams of Class 10 (Matric) and Class 12 (Inter) are over.

However, whole of the country along with Bihar is under lockdown since March 25. The lockdown is announced till April 14. Indications suggest that it will be extended by another few weeks.

Bihar board had conducted the Class 10 and 12 exams in February. But, the exams of lower classes could not be conducted due to the lockdown.

Bihar education board had on March 24 declared the Class 12 (Intermediate) result for the 2020 board exams.

The BSEB was supposed to declare the Class 10 result 2020 by end of March. The Class 10 result declaration however is delayed due to lockdown.

"The evaluation of Class 10 answer sheets are yet to be completed. Hence it will not be possible to declare the Class 10 result by March end as was expected", the board secretary said.
