New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Friday, said a total 6,761 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus have been reported so far in the country.
Of this, 6,039 are active cases of novel coronavirus, and 206 fatalities have been reported till date.
The Health Ministry also said that a total of 515 people have recovered and discharged from the hospital, and one person has migrated to another country.
Addressing the daily press conference, Joint Secretary, Health, Lav Agarwal said: "A total of 678 new cases and 33 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in the last 24 hours."
The total number includes 71 foreign nationals, the Ministry said.
Assam reported its first death due to novel coronavirus on Friday even as the five samples of state's existing 29 positive cases tested negative in the last checks, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Maharashtra continued to report the most number of cases, at least 1,364, while there are 898 cases in the national capital Delhi.
Tamil Nadu has reported 834 cases of Covid-19 so far and Telangana has 473 cases. Kerala reported 357 cases and Uttar Pradesh 431. The number of cases in Rajasthan spiked up to 463, to 363 in Andhra Pradesh, to 241 in Gujarat, and 259 in Madhya Pradesh.
Other states and UTs that have reported cases are West Bengal (116), Punjab (132), Karnataka (197), Jammu and Kashmir (184), Haryana (169), Bihar (60), Assam (29), Himachal Pradesh (28), Odisha (44), Uttarakhand (35), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (11), Arunachal Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (18), Chhattisgarh (10), Goa (7), Jharkhand (13), Ladakh (15), Manipur (1), Mizoram (1), Puducherry (5), and Tripura (1).
Two minor girls are among 48 COVID-19 positive cases detected in Odisha, said the health department on Friday. The state government released the travel history of last four COVID-19 cases on Friday. According to the state government, case number 47 and 48 who tested positive for COVID-19 are aged 9 and 5, respectively. These two girls belong to Jharpada area of Bhubaneswar. Both the minor girls are close relatives of state's patient number 42, said the government. A 37-year-old relative of these two girls has also tested positive for COVID-19.
With five new cases surfacing in Haryana on Friday, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 161. Among the active cases, nearly 80 per cent of them belong to the Tablighi Jamaat, health officials said.
A majority of the cases came from four districts that lie within 50-60 km of Delhi.
After Muslim-dominated Nuh (Mewat) and upscale Gurugram, Faridabad and Palwal districts have become state's coronavirus new hotspot where the virus containment plans also came into effect.
The only saving grace for them is that no new case was reported from the hotspot districts in the past 24 hours. Nuh has the highest number of 38 cases, followed by 32 in Gurugram and 28 each in Palwal and Faridabad.
