1,103 new cases Saturday, Kerala Covid-19 situation shows no sign of improvement

Thiruvananthapuram: After a day of respite, Kerala recorded 1,103 new coronavirus cases, Health Minister K.K. Shailaja said on Saturday.

She said 1,049 more patients were cured of the disease.

"As on date, 9,420 patients are corona positive, and 8,613 others cured. Among the new cases, like in the previous days, the cases of local infectees continue to surge, with 838 patients in this category while the source of disease in 72 patients remains unknown. Thiruvananthapuram continues to top the daily cases' list with 240 patients," said Shailaja.

As many as 1,54,300 persons are under observation at present across the state, of which 8,981 are in hospitals.

The number of daily tests, which stood around 5,000 daily in the last month, has now crossed over 20,000.

"Corona hotspots in Kerala"

As of Saturday, Kerala has 481 corona hotspots.

Meanwhile, India on Saturday reported a total of 48,916 fresh coronavirus cases while 49,310 were reported on Friday taking the total number of infectees to 98,226 -- touching almost a lakh in less than two.

The highest spike in cases was reported from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. Maharashtra has recorded 3,57,117 Covid cases out of which 13,132 people have lost their lives, followed by Tamil Nadu with total 1,99,749 cases, and 3,320 deaths.

On the other hand, total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 15.6 million, while the deaths have increased to over 638,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
