Eid ul Fitr 2024 Moon Sighting Live Updates: The Saudi Royal Court officially confirmed Tuesday April 09, 2024 as the 30th day of Ramadan and Wednesday April 10, 2024 as the first day of Eid al Fitr.
"The Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on Monday evening, Ramadan 29", Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court said.
"(Accordingly) Tuesday will be the final day of the holy month, and Eid Al-Fitr celebrations will commence on Wednesday, April 10", it said.
The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar also announced that Tuesday, April 9, 2024, will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan. It further said that Wednesday, April 10, 2024, is the first day of the blessed Eid Al Fitr in Qatar.
The moon-sighting committee in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also confirmed Wednesday April 10 as the first day of Eid al Fitr and Tuesday April 09, 2024 30th and the last day of the Muslim month of fasting Ramadan.
Muslims in Palestine will celebrate Eid al Fitr on Wednesday April 10, 2024 amid the ongoing war.
Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, who is in charge of Jerusalem’s Islamic holy places, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, has said that Tuesday is the last day of the fasting month of Ramadan.
In a statement, Hussein expressed hope that before the next Eid, “Palestinian freedom and independence will have been achieved and the brutal aggression against our people in Gaza will have ended.”
North America, Canada and Australia have have also announced Eid al Fitr 2024 celebrations on Wednesday April 10, 2024.
Muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will decide on Tuesday the exact date and time of Eid in the Indian subcontinent.
06:20 PM (Makkah Time): Astronomers in Saudi Arabia at the official Sudair and Tumair observatories the Shawwal 1445 H Moon is not sighted today.
Accordingly, Tuesday April 09, 2024 will be the 30th day of Ramadan, and the First Day of Eid al Fitr will be on Wednesday April 10, 2024.

06:00 PM (Makkah Time): The main observatories in Saudi Arabia in Sudair and Tumair are ready for sighting of Shawwal 1445 AH Moon which will decide the first day of Eid al Afitr.
The weather in Riyadh, Tumair and Sudair is a bit cloudy with rainfall reported in parts of Riyadh and most of the astronomers are of the view that it will be difficult to sight the creacent of Shawwal 1445 today. However Sudair observatory has proved them wrong on many occasions in the recnt past.
If the New Moon is sighted today, Eid al Fitr will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Jordan and other Arab states on Tuesday April 09, 2024.
An official announcement from Saudi Arabia is most likely at around 06:30 PM Makkah Time.
Meanwhile, North America, Canada and Australia have already announced Eid al Fitr 2024 celebrations on Wednesday April 10, 2024.

11:00 AM (Makkah Time): Saudi Royal Court will sit today after Maghrib Salaha to analyse and confirm the Eid Moon sighting report if any.
Given the sunset and moon rise and set timings and forecasts for April 08, 09 and 10, Eid moon is likely to be seen on April 9 and April 10. Accordingly, experts predict that Eid 2024 is likely to fall either on April 10 or 11.
The National Calendar of Saudi Arabia, which is used by its government for planning events and national holidays, has marked Wednesday April 10, 2024 as the first day of Eid al Fitr.
The Saudi declaration is followed by Birmingham's Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC), the organisers of the city's big Eid celebrations.
Meanwhile, Eid Moon Sighting today coincides with the April 08 total solar Eclipse which will be seen in North America and other adjoining areas.
Interestingly, Eid Moon sighting in 2023 was coincided with a "Hybrid Solar Eclipse".
04:00 AM (Makkah Time): The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Justice UAE, Religious Authorities and Moon Sighting Committees in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Morocco, Jordan and other Arab states in separate appeals issued Thursday called upon the local residents to sight the crescent, new moon, of the month of Shawwal 1445 AH today i.e. Monday 29th of Ramadan 1445 AH corresponding to April 08, 2024.
"In case the Eid crescent or the new moon is spotted Monday local residents should report to the nearest court so that a decision to confirm the first day of Eid al Fitr 2024 is taken", they said.
The Royal Court of Saudi Arabia called on whoever sights the crescent with naked eyes or through binoculars to report to a nearest court and register his testimony, or report to an authority of a region's centre in his area.
As per the normal practice, the UAE has also announced the formation of a moon-sighting committee to spot the crescent.
"The committee will meet after Maghrib prayers on Monday 29th of Ramadan 1445 AH corresponding to April 08, 2024 at Abu Dhabi Judicial Department to spot the crescent", the government sources said.
Special arrangements have also been made and general appeals issued by the authorities in Qatar and other Gulf states including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Muscat, Yemen, Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, Syria and Palestine to sight the Eid Moon today on Monday 29th of Ramadan 1445 AH of the Islamic Calendar corresponding to April 08, 2024.
"Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday April 09, 2024 if the new moon is spotted today. If the moon is not sighted today, then Tuesday will mark a regular fasting day and Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday April 10, 2024", Saudi Royal Court said.
The Australian National Imams Council has announced that Muslims in Australia will celebrate Eid al Fitr on Wednesday April 10, 2024.
"The Australian Fatwa Council is pleased to announce to the Australian Muslim Community that Tuesday, 9th of April 2024, will be the last day of the Month of Ramadan 1445AH."
"The Day of Eid Al-Fitr will be on Wednesday, 10th of April 2024, and the first day of the Month of Shawwal 1445AH", the Australian National Imams Council said in a statement.
The government in Brunei, Singapore, Malayasia and Indonesia will make the Eid Moon Announcement Monday.
The Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar’i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal.
"The Astronomical New Moon is on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 18:21 Universal Time. On April 8, there is no place on earth where at sunset the elongation is 8 degrees and moon is 5 degrees above the sun. Hence the first day of Shawwal is on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, insha’Allah", the council said.
Muslims in Canada follow The Fiqh Council of North America, which utilizes the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR), to celebrate Eid and observe Ramadan fast. Accordingly, Canada will too celebrate Eid al Fitr on Wednesday.
"The Muslim Association of Canada is pleased to announce that Monday March 11th, 2024 will be the first day of Ramadan 1445 Hijri and Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, inshaAllah", it said.
Muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal will sight the Eid moon on Tuesday April 09, 2024 and Ramadan 29, 1445AH in these countries.
The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) of France and the UK’s Islamic Relief, Wifaqul Ulama have also made appeal to Muslims in the respective countries to sight the New Moon of the month of Shawwal 1445 on 09th of April 2024, the 29th Ramaḍān 1445.
The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand will also sight the Eid moon on Tuesday April 09, 2024.
Eid al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan - the month of fasting. In this month, Muslims across the world refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk.
Special prayers, including Traweeh prayers, are offered all across the Muslim world. A huge amount of money and food are also donated in the Holy month of Ramadan to help the poor and needy.
