Days after ditching U.S. President Donald Trump, Elon Musk – the American billionaire and the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla and social media platform X, hinted at joining active politics.

It has long been speculated that Musk’s ultimate target is to become President of India – though it will require constitutional amendments as he is not born in America and not a natural born U.S. citizen - a primary requirement for the top post.

Elon Musk’s ambitions gained momentum after he actively campaigned for Donald Trump during the 2024 Election and later joined his government.

There were multiple times when Trump praised Musk. On his part, Musk stood firmly behind Trump and took and supported some of the policy decisions that even resulted in business losses for him and prompted calls to boycott Tesla.

Things, however, took a dramatic turn when Musk first resigned as DOGE head, and later became a “strong critic” of Trump for whom he sought votes only few months ago to make “America Great Again”.

Musk was especially critical of Trump’s “Big and Beautiful Bill” - a sweeping tax-and-spending package. Indicating the growing rift between the two, Musk even supported the call to impeach Trump and replace him with VP JD Vance.

Amidst this Elon Musk hinted at launching a new political party that he said “really represents America”.

This all started after Musk in a series of social media posts floated a poll asking whether a new political party was needed in the United States. He claimed that 80% of respondents supported the idea.

“The public has spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80 per cent in the middle! And exactly 80 per cent of people agree. This is fate,” he wrote on X.

Responding to the post, a user shared an image suggesting the name “America Party”.

“The name America Party sounds great. The party that really represents America!” Musk responded.

Hours later Musk made another post that simply read: “The America Party.”

Political analysts are reading these posts as a sign that Musk will soon join active politics and even pitch for the top post.
