Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court Thursday reprimanded BJP MLC N Ravikumar citing Vijay Shah, his party colleague and a minister in Madhya Pradesh, and asked him to personally apologies to Kalaburagi DM Fouzia Tarannum (IAS).
Senior BJP leader in Karnataka Ravikumar while addressing a party event on May 24 has linked Kalaburagi District Magistrate Fouzia Tarannum (IAS) with Pakistan.
The comments had sparked a huge outrage. An FIR was also filed against him at Kalaburagi Police Station.
Fearing arrest Ravikumar approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the FIR against him and seeking protection from him.
A vacation bench of Justice Suraj Govindaraj however refused to entertain his plea and asked him to go and personally apologies to Fouzia Tarannum (IAS) first then come to the court.
Fouzia Tarannum – a 2014 batch IAS officer, has an impeccable service record. She has won various awards including the one by none other than the President of India.
The court cited the case of Madhya Pradesh Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Shah’s case to reprimand Ravikumar.
"These are not the statements to be made. You have seen what happened in Madhya Pradesh and the Supreme Court with a sitting minister. You are no different. You cannot make such statements," Justice Govindaraj said.
Vijay Shah is facing legal action for making derogatory comments targeted at Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. Col Sufiya was one of the panel members tasked to brief the media about the Operation Sindoor launched by India against Pakistan to avenge Pahalgam terrorist attack.
