After FS Misri, Trolls Now Target CDS Anil Chauhan

The online trolling and hate campaign in India is unending, and the latest target of the trolls is Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces General Anil Chauhan.

The "crime" of CDS Anil Chauhan is he admitted that India incurred military losses, more specifically Indian fighter jets were downed by Pakistain, during Operation Sindoor launched to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

CDS Bloomberg Interview

Talking to Bloomberg in Singapore, CDS Anil Chauhan also talked about “tactical mistakes” committed by the Indian Army on the first day of its airstrikes in Pakistan. He, however, said the army “learnt from the mistakes, made course correction and bounced back after two days.”

CDS Anil Chouhan also said the ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan on May 10 was strategic and finalized since “India had achieved all its targets” of Operation Sindoor, in a way contradicting PM Modi who repeatedly said “Pakistan was begging for mercy”.

In his interview with Bloomberg, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) also slammed the “fake narratives” aired by the Indian media. About 15% of the operational time during Operation Sindoor was “spent countering fake narratives and disinformation”, he said.

Pakistan had claimed it shot down 6 Indian fighter jets – including Rafale Jets. Senior BJP Leader and former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy said the number of Indian fighter jets shot down by Pakistan is 5.

The Narendra Modi government, however, has so far not officially confirmed the losses India has incurred during its 4-day war with Pakistan in May. The government has also not directly refuted U.S. President Donald Trump, who repeatedly claimed, it was he who forced India and Pakistan to end the war.

Trolls Demand Removal of CDS

CDS Anil Chauhan’s statement is seen as the first official confirmation about the Indian fighter jets shot down by the Pakistani Army. And, the right-wing trolls are up in arms against him with some, accusing him of indiscipline, demands his removal from the post.

"My issue isn’t that it was done, rather how it was done. There was a way to do it & this was not it. The CDS and the High Commissioner to Singapore jumped the gun. This wasn’t their decision to make. Consequences need to follow this kind of indiscipline (sic)", Abhijit Iyer-Mitra wrote using X handle @Iyervval.

Some trolls are questioning the English language and oratory skills of the CDS.

“im sorry but CDS anil chauhan just ruined it all by his limited fluency. He is clearly not articulate and should NOT have given an international interview when he struggles with effective communication, and you know every word will be dissected and twisted to shape narratives (sic)”, another social media user who uses X hand @ppalzee wrote.

Prof. Madan M. Sharma who uses X @mmsharma102 wrote: “The CDS of India Gen. Chauhan should not have given interviews to media, especially a foreign one! He did not show maturity that is required of him. My feeling from the beginning itself was that he should not be the CDS!”

The trolls had earlier also targeted Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughter. Their fault? Vikram Misri was tasked to brief the media about the ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan on May 10, 2025.

Before Vikram Misri, the trolls had run hate campaign against Himanshi Narwal – the wife of Indian Navy Officer killed in Pahalgam. Himanshi was trolled and subjected to vicious hate campaign after she asked people not to target Muslims or Kashmiris in the name of Pahalgam attack.
