Mumbai: Five commuters died and seven others were injured after falling from an overcrowded Local Train during peak rush hour between Mumbra and Diva railway stations Monday June 09, 2025.

The tragedy unfolded on the Kalyan-bound fast line of Central Railway when two trains passed each other on adjacent tracks, and footboard commuters — forced into dangerous positions due to congestion, reportedly collided around 9:00 AM Monday.

The train was travelling from Kasara to CSMT when the accident occurred. The Central Railway authorities confirmed that another train was passing towards the opposite side, causing the accident.

"Auto-door closure in all trains"

Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the railway department has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Railway Board has stated that all rakes under manufacturing for Mumbai Suburban will have automatic door closer facilities.

"All rakes in service will be redesigned and auto-door closure facility will be provided in these rakes of Mumbai Suburban", the officials sais following the Mumbra train accident Monday.
