Owaisi protests detention of Muslim youths, demands their immediate release

Hyderabad: Over a week after communal clashes in the old city here left two persons dead, police today claimed to have made a breakthrough into the investigations of the violence by arresting 39 key "conspirators".

It also announced relaxation of the curfew in the riot-hit areas for 10 hours -- from 7 am to 5 pm -- tomorrow.

"We have today arrested 39 people who conspired to instigate the communal riots. With this, 204 people have been arrested so far," Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters.

Two persons were killed and over 90 injured in incidents like arson, attacks, stabbing and stone-pelting in several localities of the Old City between March 27 and 31.

Khan said they are all set to crack the case with regard to a private bank employee, who was stabbed to death during the violence. "We have identified and questioned the suspects and the case will be resolved soon."

With the situation in the riot-hit areas remaining peaceful in the past few days, the Commissioner announced relaxation of the curfew for 10 hours tomorrow in localities under the jurisdiction of 25 police stations.

"Things have definitely changed and are fast moving towards normalcy, though the situation is sensitive. We will continue to be on vigil and a decision on relaxation in night curfew will be taken depending on the situation," Khan added.
