Police find Pune blast case tough to crack

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday submitted its investigation report on the Pune blast to the State government claiming the perpetrators of the bombing that killed 17 people have been identified and their arrest would be made soon.

The report was submitted by the newly-appointed ATS chief Rakesh Maria to the home department and was then forwarded to the Centre, ATS sources said but refused to disclose the identity of the suspects.

According to the sources, terror group Indian Mujahideen (IM) is suspected to be behind the blast and the suspects would be arrested in a day or two.

State Home Minister R.R. Patil had told the Legislative Council on Tuesday that the investigating agency had identified the suspects and more details would be disclosed after their arrest.

“The police department has zeroed in on the accused.

We have identified them and will soon reveal more information about the case,” Mr. Patil informed the Legislative Council.

The filing of the report comes a fortnight after Mr. Maria took over as ATS chief replacing K.P. Raghuvanshi, who received flak from the Centre for divulging information prematurely to the media on terror cases.

On February 13, a blast ripped apart German Bakery, a popular joint for foreigners, near Osho Ashram in Pune killing 17 people and injuring several others.
