New Delhi/Mumbai: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Wednesday congratulated cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on achieving a special milestone of an unbeaten 200, which is the highest score in one-day international cricket’s history.

In his personal message, Prime Minister Dr. Singh, described Tendulkar’s double century as a “magnificent achievement” and stated: “Sachin has led by example and all Indians are proud of his achievement.”

The Prime Minister also wished him many more glorious years in his cricketing career.

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday scored first ever double century and also broke the world record for highest runs in ODI previously held by Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar for 194 runs, while playing in the second ODI here against South Africa.

Sachin scored 200 in just 147 balls playing with Team India skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni on the other end, who scored 68* in just 35 balls.

In his 147 ball inning, Tendulkar scored 25 fours and 3 sixes to make unbeaten 200.

'Tendulkar’s feat laudable'

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and Chief Minister Ashok Chavan Wednesday congratulated Mumbai-born Sachin Tendulkar for scoring first ever one-Day International double century.

In a message, the governor said: “The entire nation and cricket lovers across the world are proud of you for setting the much-awaited world record by scoring the first-ever double century in a one-day international game against South Africa.”

Sankaranarayanan noted that the record is “particularly special, as it took many years to better the previous best record”.

In his message, Chavan said, “Sachin Tendulkar has made us all proud by his heroic innings.”

Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, lauding the feat, termed Tendulkar as a “Vikramadhipati” and a great living cricket legend.

Tendulkar scored an unbeaten 200 against South Africa in Gwalior ODI Wednesday.
