Statehood call shuts down Maharashtra's Vidarbha region

Nashik: Expressing BJP's support for a separate Vidharbha state, Ex-BJP president Bangaru Laxman Tuesday said statehood was necessary to boost development in the region.

He was talking to newsmen after visiting Shirdi temple.

Lashing out at the Shiv Sena and MNS, Laxman said, Mumbai belongs to all as in last 60 years people across the country have been residing here.

He further stated that these parties should leave their narrow minded politics, projecting themselves as the protectors of 'Marathi Manoos'.

Criticising the inactiveness of the UPA Government, Laxman said, the central government is neglecting issues like price rise, unemployment and security.

Terming Manmohan Singh as proxy Prime Minister, he alleged that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are the real rulers of India.
