Assam doctor found killed with neck slit in ICU
Friday May 9, 2014 6:38 PM, IANS

A woman doctor was found killed with her neck slit in the Intensive Care Unit of a medical college in Assam Friday, police said.

Sensation gripped Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh town after Sarita Tashniwal's body was discovered lying in a pool of blood under mysterious circumstances.

Police arrested a ward boy in connection with the case and a probe is on.

Sarita, who hails from neighbouring Sivsagar district, was a first-year post-graduate student of the gynaecology department, AMC officials said. She was on night duty since Thursday evening in the ICU, they said.

The officials said a nurse went to the ward around 7.30 a.m. and found her lying in a pool of blood.

Police said they saw a cut mark on her neck and they recovered a surgical knife that might have been used to commit the murder.

The AMC is one of the oldest medical institutes in northeast India. British philanthropist Sir John Berry White, a retired brigadier of the British Army, spent his lifetime's earning to establish this institution. It was earlier known as Berry White Medical School.
