Dhule: Heavy police bandobast is deployed in Nandurbar, the tribal district in North Maharashtra, some 90 kms from here, after clashes between two groups of different communities erupted Saturday morning.
According to the reports, Nandurbar was tense since last few days after a Muslim was set ablaze following a scuffle over a petty issue.
Violence broke out in the city when a sudden bandh was called Saturday morning in protest after the victim identified as Pinjari succumbed to his injuries at Dhule Civil Hospital last night.
Eyewitnesses talking to ummid.com on phone said heavy stone pelting took place in the market areas of the city.
"The situation is tense but under control", Police Superintendent Rajendra Dahade said while talking to reporters.
Nandurbar has seen communal clashes on regular intervals in recent past. In February 2015, there were arson, looting and heavy stone pelting after the clashes following protests by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and othre Hinudtva outfits despite prohibitory orders.
The city witnessed communal clashes in September 2011 when a tussle between police and members of a local Ganesh Mandal turned into a communal violence killing one person.
