New Delhii: The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday adjourned hearing in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exam (SSC Tier II CGL 2017) paper leak matter and sought status report on it.
The exam took place in 2017 and thousands of students who appeared for it continues to remain in limbo.
The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring on record its latest status report regarding the ongoing probe into the leak.
During the earlier hearing in the case on October 29, 2018, the Supreme Court of India had said re-examination of SSC Tier II CGL 2017 - either by National Testing Agency (NTA) or the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), was the best way forward to protect the interest of students.
A bench of Justices S A Bobde and L Nageswara Rao further said that it was impossible to track out all the candidates who got access to the leaked question paper.
If the SC takes a decision to scrap the SSC CGL Tier II exam which was allegedly leaked leading to a massive protest by job seekers, then about 1.9 lakh candidates may have to re-appear for the test held to fill some 9,372 vacancies.
“We can scrap the exam if you all agree. No investigating agency would find out the beneficiaries with precision. The CBI also says that it will need more time to complete its investigation,” the Supreme Court of India said.
SSC Combined Graduate Level exam has a four-tier system, in which Tier I and Tier II are computer-based, while in Tier III and IV, job applicants take up a descriptive paper and a computer proficiency test or skill test.
SSC CGL Tier 2 exam was held from 17 to 22 February 2018. A total of 1,89,843 candidates had appeared for SSC CGL Tier 2 exam.
