Hubli Eid-gah: Anjuman exudes compliance, Sangh welcomes the ruling

Tricolor hoisted at Hubli Eid-gah amid tight security

Hubli: The construction on the border of Idga Maidan, which was the source of discord for over decades and invited legal row, was demolished today as per the direction of Supreme Court.

Office bearers of Anjuman E Islam, including Chairman Yusuf Savanur, were present during the demolition.

The Supreme Court had directed the institution to vacate the building within 45 days from the date of Court order.

About 25 years ago, the Anjuman Islam had built a shopping complex on one side of Idaga Maidan in Hubli situated in the heart of the city. But various organizations, including the Hindu Pariwar, had raised serious objections on the ground that the property belonged to Hubli- Dharwad Corporation and it was public land.

All the Courts had upheld the objections of the organizations and also the Corporation. The matter was at last referred to Supreme Court which gave enough opportunities to settle the issue amicably.

But as it was a futile effort and the parties differed, the Court took its own decision stating Muslim community would be allowed to hold prayers on two occasions only and declared it was a public property belonging to Hubli- Dharwad Corporation. With this, the issue was almost completely settled.
