Malegaon: The Bhartiya Janata Party's hypocrisy on animal slaughter stood exposed once again when its members voted in Malegaon Mayor election held on Wednesday for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Nabi Ahmed, who is famous in the city as a 'Slaughter House Wala'.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), along with its parent and affiliate organisations, is running campaign against animal slaughter. But, the party is also accused of having different stands on animal slaughter in different situations and in different parts of the country.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won just 09 seats in the 2017 Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) elections and was expected to play a role of responsible opposition party.
In the lust of capturing power, it however entered into an alliance with Azeem Ittehad of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Janata Dal (S) and decided to support Azeem Ittehad's mayoral candidate in return of the deputy mayor post.
After the two struck the alliance, local BJP president Sunil Aba Gaekwad filed the nomination papers for the deputy mayor election while Bulund Iqbal of Azeem Ittehad filed the nomination papers for the mayor elections.
Sunil Aba Gaekwad and Bulund Iqbal had however both withdrawn from the election before voting took place on Wednesday in favour of Nabi Ahmed.
Nabi Ahmed is one of the founders of a state of the art and modern slaughter house in Malegaon. The slaughter house established by Nabi Ahmed and his partners is currently being run by a multinational group.
Nabi Ahmed lost the Malegaon Mayor election to Shaikh Rasheed of Congress. But, by getting votes of the BJP members to his side, he has exposed once again the party's double standard on animal slaughter.
The Malegaon Mayor election witnessed another example of political hypocrisy on Wednesday when the Congress and Shiv Sena formed an alliance, and even brought to their fold the All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen of Asaduddin Owaisi for the mayor and deputy mayor elections.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi crisscrosses one corner of the country to another criticising and abusing the Congress nd communal parties. Even during the Malegaon election he had urged the people of Malegaon to make sure that power of Malegaon civic body didn’t go to corrupt and communal parties.
But,
on Wednesday during the mayor and deputy mayor elections, the AIMIM tactically supported the Congress and Shiv Sena - a fact acknowledged and praised by newly elected Mayor of Malegoan Shaikh Rasheed.
