Aurangabad: Chief Minister Ashok Chavan today advocated the need for an united Maharashtra and warned Shiv Sena and MNS against any move to split the state on the basis of language and regions.
Chavan said the Congress was committed for growth of an united Maharashtra and the party would not tolerate any move to separate Mumbai and Vidarbha from the state.
He was addressing party workers here at the Garware stadium complex, where he launched campaigning for the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections scheduled to be held in April.
Chavan said some parties like Shiv Sena and MNS were trying to to divide people on the basis of language and region.
He warned Sena and MNS to refrain from any move that did not come within the framework of the Constitution.
''We will not accept any type of hooliganism in the state. We welcome everyone in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Come, stay and contribute towards development of the state'', he said.
''If anyone tried to create hurdles in development, Congress workers will teach them a lesson. Our party is committed to provide security to every citizen irrespective of his language and region,'', he added.
Chavan promised all support for development of Vidarbha and Marathwada and said government will work to complete the backlog of these regions and provide necessary funds.
He reiterated the government's resolve to make Maharashtra free from load shedding within the next three years.
