Malegaon:
Anna Hazare's endorsement for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi
and his advice to other Chief Ministers to imitate him are
receiving strong condemnations from the activists.
"There has been little or no rural
development in the state. In fact gauchar lands and irrigated
farmlands have been stealthily taken by the government and sold
off at ridiculous prices to a small club of industrialists",
renowned activist Mallika Sarabhai wrote April 11 in a letter to Anna Hazare.
"There has been no Lokayukta in
Gujarat for nearly seven years so hundreds of complaints against
corruption are lying unheard. From the Sujalam Sufalam scam of
1700 crores to the NREGS boribund scam of 109 crores, the
fisheries scam of 600 crores, every department is involved in
thousands of crores of scams."
"The poor and rural people are being
sold to Modi's friends the industrialists. The state is in
terrible debt because of his largess to industry while 21 lakh
farmers wait for compensation", she added.
Stating that she is deeply shocked by Hazare's endorsement of
Narendra Modi's rural development, she wrote, "Your endorsement is
appalling and we will be forced to distance ourselves from the
Lokpal movement unless it is irrevocably retracted."
Anna Hazare while addressing a
press conference in New Delhi April 10 advised the chief
ministers across the country to replicate the development work
done by Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi.
"The work done by chief ministers of Bihar (Nitish Kumar) and
Gujarat (Narendra Modi) should be done by chief ministers of all
states," Anna Hazare said.
"I am not in support of any party, but the work they (Modi
and Nitish Kumar) have done at the grassroots level is needed. The
rural development they have done should be imitated," he said.
Meanwhile netizens are also
expressing surprise over Anna Hazare's statement. Minutes after
ummid.com published this story, a netizen who identifies him as
Singhvi Prakash commented, "Anna Hazare in his true colours. You
are not in support of any party, but have soft corner for BJP and
Sangh Parivar?? World knows what development work, Modi has done
in Gujarat. Do you want other Chief Ministers to imitate that? The
anti Muslim riots?"
Another netizen, who identified
himself as Riyaz Saifi commented, "Hazareji if you do not support
any party then what people like Ramdev doing with you? He is known
to have donated huge money to BJP during the last elections."
