Srinagar: While
appealing for peace, the Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith in Jammu and Kashmir
has convened an all-party meet here Wednesday to help identify
those who killed its president Maulana Showkat Shah.
Shah was killed in an explosion here Friday while he was entering
a mosque to offer prayers.
A statement issued by the Jamiate Ahle Hadith headquarters Sunday evening
termed the Maulana's assassination "an attempt to wipe out the
Ahle Hadith school of thought from Kashmir".
The organisation has sought the help of the state government,
religious groups, civil society and political organisations to
identify the killers of the religious leader.
"Whether the killers are outside or within us, we will not sit
unless we unveil them," acting Ahle Hadith president Ghulam Rasool
Malik said.
Malik said: "We urge people to have patience and not to resort to
any such act which will affect peace. We want to give a message of
peace not only to the people of Kashmir, but also to the entire
world.
"During the last three days, we have given a practical proof of
peace. There will be no street protests or further shutdown
because of Maulana's killing."
