Dhule: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Shahada President and the party's sitting councilor Saddam Husain Teli was stabbed to death on Wednesday allegedly after a brawl with local Congress workers who reportedly wanted to take revenge of the defeat in the civic elections.
AIMIM Shahada President Saddam Teli was in a hospital attending party councilor Zahida Bi's son, who was injured in a fight with ex-councilor Mukhtar Shaikh's kin in the morning on Wednesday.
Some times in the afternoon, Mukhtar Shaikh came with three others in a car and called Saddam Teli outside the hospital and repeatedly attacked him with knife. The attackers ran away from the spot while Saddam Teli died on the spot, eyewitnesses said.
The AIMIM had won 04 seats in the 27-member Shahada civic body election held in November 2016. Saddam and other AIMIM councilors had mostly unseated the sitting Congress councilors from their wards. Mukhtar Shaikh was defeated by Saddam Teli.
Saddam Teli, in his thirties, was recently married. He was Chairman of the local bandh kam department and was very active in the area.
Angry mob ransacked the house of Mukhtar Shaikh's house and also set ablaze his shop after the reports of Saddam Teli's murder.
Local police is keeping a close watch of the situation. The area was under curfew the last night. Situation as of now is said to be tense but under control, they said.
