New Delhi:
A national flag weighing 1.5 tonne was today hoisted at the historic Town Hall building by Union minister Harsh Vardhan, in Chandni Chowk area of walled city.

Harsh Vardhan lauded the initiative by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Hindustan Mercantile Association, saying it would instill a spirit of nationalism and patriotism in citizens and paid homage to those who fought for the country.

The leaders of NDMC including North Delhi Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar and Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba were present on the occasion.

Nayyar termed the occasion as an "unforgettable event" as national flag was hoisted at such a height (104 ft) at a historical place like Chandni Chowk on the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement.

He said that Chandni Chowk held great value as a tourist spot too.
