Eight amazing inventions World wouldn't have without Muslims

When we think of technology and innovation, people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs may come to mind. But the world wouldn't be where it was today without these eight amazing items invented by Muslims.

Algebra
Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi created the mathematical system. A European scholar translated his writings in the 12th century that became the basis of what is now known as the modern system of algebra.

Toothbrush
The prophet Muhammad created the first toothbrush in 600 CE. It is believed he used twigs from the Miswak tree to clean his teeth.

Surgery
Around 1000 CE, Al Zahrawi created a 1500-page encyclopedia of surgery that was used in Europe for the next 500 years. He reportedly performed the first C-section.

Coffee
While Ethiopia is thought to be the birthplace of coffee, evidence points to Yemen as the first place coffee was consumed. The beans were roasted and brewed in the country before it spread all over the world.

Marching band
The Ottoman empire originated the idea of marching bands from military marching bands during the 13th century.

Torpedos
The first design for a rocket propelled torpedo comes from a Syrian scholar's book on military technology.

Guitar
The modern instrument is thought to be based off the "Oud". The oldest record of the instrument dates back over 5,000 years ago.

Hospitals
The first notion of hospitals were mobile units in Baghdad, but the template for modern hospitals reportedly came from Cairo. At that particular hospital created by Ahmed Ibn Tulun in the 9th century, everyone received free healthcare. (Aol.com)
