Malegaon: More than 11 lakh students from across India and abroad who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - UG (NEET 2017) held in May are anxious and feeling uneasy as uncertainty over the result declaration loomed large after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) could not release the official Answer Key as per the expected schedule.
The CBSE in the Information Bulletin has fixed June 08 as the tentative date to declare the NEET 2017 result. Before that the candidates' OMR sheet and NEET 2017 Official Answer Keys should have been released.
However the CBSE has neither released the OMR Sheet of the students nor the NEET 2017 Answer Keys. Hence it is almost impossible that the NEET 2017 results would be declared on June 08, as tentatively fixed by the CBSE.
Though the CBSE is yet to make any official statement to explain, sources said the delay is because of various petitions filed in Madras High Court, with one even demanding outright cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - UG (NEET 2017).
According to the reports, a fresh writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking to cancel the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and demanding that the students should be given admission in MBBS and BDS courses based on Plus Two marks.
The petitioner submitted that since the NEET question papers were different in different state languages, marks obtained in it could not be the basis for admission to MBBS and BDS courses.
The Madurai Bench had on May 24 granted an interim stay on the release of NEET 2017 results. Justice M V Muralidharan had also directed officials of the Medical Council of India, the CBSE Director and the Union health department to file their counter affidavits on June 7.
It is said that the CBSE could not process the result because of the onging legal battle.
Whatever may be the reason, students feel that the delay in NEET 2017 result would disturb the lenghty admission process which will further affect their academic schedule.
The CBSE had conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET-UG-2017 on 7th May, 2017 from 10.00 am to 01.00 pm in offline mode across the country. The online exams were held on May 9.
The exams, conducted in 10 languages at 1921 Exam Centres in 103 cities, were held for UG admissions to 95,000 seats - 65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS, in all Government Medical Colleges, Private Medical Colleges and Deemed Universities across the country.
A total of 11, 38,890 students had registered for this examination including 1522 NRIs, 480 OCIs, 70 PIOs and 613 Foreigners.
